Welcome to the website of "De Maraboes" the notorious rugby club from Maastricht. The Maastrischtse Studenten Rugby Genootschap was founded in 1989 and has since reached an active member body of over thirty people and over 40 alumni, all members of the famed Old Marabou Association the O.M.A.
Student Rugby in Maastricht started with a bunch of students who were sick of playing the national Dutch sports and were intrigued by their university neighbours in the UK where rugby was and still is the pinnacle of student life. No other sport combines sportmanschip, team-work and most importantly socialising in the way rugby does.
After a few training sessions and hasty recruitment Maastricht University was ready to enter a team into the 5th division. Since the early amateuristic days the team has propelled itself into a force that is to be reckoned with throughout Holland. Currently competing in division 2 and winning multiple regional and provincial tournaments De Maraboes has clearly put themselves on the map of Dutch Rugby.
Besides rugby, the Maraboes are known throughout the bars in Maastricht as the boys that enjoy their beers and know how to Party. It is for this reason that regular team outings and organised evenings with fraternities and sororities are plentiful on our annual calendar. Highlights of the year include Kerst diner, OMA cup, end year BBQ and the famed yearly Maraboes Tour. The Maraboes Tour takes the team to an unknown party city within Europe where Rugby and diehard partying are combined into a blend of fun, pain and most importantly team building.
